Shingle Shield should be installed in a straight line under the first row of shingles below the ridge. A 1/8 inch space is to be left between each piece, or simply overlap the sections to allow for thermal expansion of zinc.

Beginning from either end of the roof peak install a continuous single row under the first available course of shingles below the ridge line. To allow for thermal expansion leave a 1/8 inch gap between each section, or just overlap them slightly. Simply slide one Shingle Shield up under the shingle until its built-in alignment guide butts against the edge of the shingle. Repeat this process along the roof line until the row is completed.
Note: For severe conditions, steep pitches, or slopes greater than 20 feet, a second row midway down the roof slope may be necessary. Additional Shingle Shield pieces should be placed below dormers, chimneys, or any other obstruction which blocks the flow of rainwater from the ridgeline.

Once aligned, raise shingle tab, locate the pre-punched hole and nail into place using a high quality hot-dipped galvanized roofing nail. Note: A dab of roofing cement or polyurethane caulking over the nail head will insure a watertight seal (wood roofs should use a neoprene washer head nail - see above).

Installation Tips:
Do not attempt to install Shingle Shield when it's raining, the roof is wet, or if a lightning is possible. In warm weather, use care when raising shingles as they may be tacky and stick together where overlap occurs. In cold weather, take care when raising shingles as they could be brittle and subject to cracking or breaking.

  • Shingle Shield is designed to be installed on a new or existing roof, presently clean of fungus, moss, and/or algae build-up.
  • Shingle Shield will last the life of the roof, and may be reused.
  • Shingle Shield will not rust but it will turn a darker shade of gray.
