INTERESTING ROOF PRODUCTS

We are occasionally asked for some feedback on some new and interesting roofing products. Below are some products that we think would be advantageous for a building owner or homeowner to use because of simplicity or quality, or maybe we just like them.
flexim™ ROOF MORTAR
It's a flexible mortar product you install for concrete or clay tile roofs. It eliminates the need to mix up mortar for under the ridge cap or in valleys. I wish I'd thought of it. For more information, click here:

Though I'm not a Granola-Chomping Tree-Hugger, I think it's important to recycle products to save natural resources. Below are a list of companies that produce roofing products made from recycled materials. These are all materials that I would trust to install on my own home.
EcoStar
Authentic-Roof
I really like this intake ventilation product. I prefer it over under-eave soffit vents for both installation ease and for ventilation quality. It's installed ON TOP of the deck down at the eaves and it works great! Thanks to Jerry Williams at McGuff Roofing out of Muncie, IN for introducing me to the product a few years back.
SV-10 Starter Vent by Lomanco - It's the last product on the page.
Severe ice dam issues? I deal with them, too. For those of you who don't want to have to reroof your house in order to install ice dam protection membranes, or want the risk of heat tape or heat cables, there's a product you can roll out onto your roof during the Winter, and roll it back up in the Spring. Pretty nifty. Check out ThermaShingle and ThermaRoof at ThermaProducts, Inc. They also have other products that may be assets to those of you living in the cold regions. Roofhelp NOTE: The above links don't work. Roofhelp is currently trying to determine if the company is out of business.
Another great and relatively new intake ventilation product. This is a good one because many homes have no soffit so the SV-10 Starter Vent won't work. This intake ventilation product can be installed part way up the roof,  just above the overhang, or wherever! Word of advice, you need 3' of vertical distance between this vent and the exhaust vents near the ridge of the roof.

Something that's becoming relatively popular is the use of solar roof shingles. In many cases, these are replacing the old, ugly, bulky, and nightmarish (as far as waterproofing is concerned) solar panels that were so popular about 20 years ago. Solar shingles help offer an effective and attractive solution to alternative energy.
Recommendation: Don't use them if you live in hail-prone regions.

I have to say that this is one of the coolest metal roofing products ever to hit the market. Roof Huggers allow you to put a new metal roof over the top of an existing metal roof, without tearing it off. It saves money and time, and exceeds all building codes out there, even the strict Miami-Dade building codes. If you're an owner who needs a new metal roof, or a contractor getting ready to bid on a metal roof replacement, then get in touch with this company to see if they can help you. One of the best things about them is their excellent and courteous support staff.

When it comes to moving big HVAC unit on a roof, I'm one of these guys who generally uses 3 to 5 other guys, some 4x4's, CMU blocks or something else to set them on, and whatever else I need. I was recently introduced to products that are used commonly throughout the Midwest. These things would have saved me a lot of time, money, and danger over the years had I known about them or, had the simple insight to design and manufacture them myself.

DCI Products has impressed us yet again with another product that makes us say "Why didn't I think of that?" This is a gutter leaf guard that is less expensive than standard metal leaf guards and very easy to install. It just slips right into your gutter; it looks like just about anyone can install it. They also claim it helps eliminate ice damming. Check it out.
